Whatever Lola Wants

And here's Lola. In the sweater that she wanted (okay, her mom wanted). I made one like it (without the pink trim) for her partner in crime, Charlie.

(No, Lola and Charlie are not mine!) Sweaters were a special request from Younger Son for a friend.

What Does the Fox Say?

I'm not certain that we will ever know.This one (who goes by the name of Fleabag) is destined for an Easter egg hunt at the home of the Baby Grands.

So far, he's been silent.

And I need to make at least 2 more equally cute egg stuffers pronto! Easter is a mere 3 weeks away.


Pattern in the OOP book in the background. Yarn, odd bits of sock yarn, probably Brown Sheep Wildfoote.


I'm not especially inclined to review this book. A quick search tells me that it's available (possibly) from UK vendors, but Amazon lists it only in the used state. I bought mine (remaindered) at Ollie's (good stuff, cheap) a couple years ago--for less than $5. I have made up only one of the patterns (Fleabag) and it is fiddly beyond beyond. Part of that is My Own Fault, as I used sock weight yarn and size 1 dpns. The pattern calls for DK/worsted and size 4s. I think you can see the problem.



Baby, Baby, Bay-BEE!

 And I am replenishing my stock of baby presents.

This newest carseat blankie is in Webs house brand Valley Yarns Dana in a baby blue. When dawn has failed to crack (darn you, DST!) it's hard(er) to get an accurate color on an iphone camera. It's a little deeper IRL

I'll make a pair of matching booties and stash this one away for the next hypothetical future person.

Can't say enough nice things about this Leisure Arts pattern booklet . I've made several of them (Look back to Januaryish 2014 for more pictures). There's a crochet version also available. Most knitters and crocheters would not need (technically) either of these booklets, but frankly, I'm not sure that I would have gotten the concept without mine! I mean, small blankie, perfect for tucking around a tiny infant; no excess fabric to trip up Mom (or Dad). Come on, am I the only one who was in the dark?

Cold Weather; Warm Gear




Finished this soft and cuddly scarf last week. It's from the last of some Bernat Soy and planned for a yarn bombing. However, the cold weather may have me rethinking that!


And the reaction of TPT (Tiny Prince Two/Too) got me thinking about the Monster Pants leftovers and so I cast on a couple of scarves for him and his big bro (TPO - Tiny Prince Original).

I may have mentioned that both of the Tiny Princes are no longer tiny.

And yes, I know that scarves are often not recommended for little kids, but they aren't so little any more.








Did I mention that it's cold?

These should go out in Tuesday's mail (Monday is a holiday).

Another Week Gone By


Starting off this post with photos of two sweaters (very tiny) that were finished at the end of 2013. They are both ready to be packed up and mailed.



Minions! Those cute little guys from theDespicable Me movies, translated into yarn. And Edith (ditto). They are about 6" tall and just perfect for carrying in a pocket for those times when you need something, you know, despicable, done.


And lastly, a Woodland Sprite hat and mitts. The mitts were made by starting with one repeat of the hat pattern, throwing in an eyelet round, and finishing with a basic thumbless mitten.They are for the Purple Warrior Princess.

It has been the week from hell, between work, the weather,  and the dentist, but it's over and the new week promises to be a little calmer. I am hoping for that.

Definitely 3

I wove in the last of the ends tonight and packed this sweater up with the first one I finished for Afghans For Afghans.

I'll be mailing both of them after work tomorrow.

The particulars: Pattern is Cottage Creations' Rialey's Sweater. Yarn is worsted weight Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride (wool and mohair blend), the yellow, green, and light blue, and odd bits of Patons Classic Wool, the red and darker blue. Size 5 and 7 needles.

Knit top down, in the round. Minimal finishing (unless you count all the ends.

Put Your Best Food Forward



Blog readers responded so remarkably to the Mittnz Challenge that I thought I'd offer the opportunity to Do A Good Thing during the winter.

The Native American Support group will be having it's annual Heet the Feet (is there an echo in here?) blitz during February. Another member is organizing this effort.

The idea is to provide new slippers, booties, socks, tights, pantyhose etc. in quantity to keep feet warm. They are also sending gently used shoes and boots. Socks, slippers, and booties can be handmade or purchased.

There will be prizes! There will be prizes for members of the group who send their stuff between February 1 and 29 (so join the group to get in on these) for one random Member Who Mailed, for the Person Sending the Largest Number of Handmade Socks, Slippers, and/or Booties, and ::drumroll:: People's Choice Award for the cutest/coolest/most wonderful pair.

Since I know that not everyone who reads here wants to join Yet Another Group, how 'bout we do the People's Choice thing here, too?

Blog Readers will have a chance at Yet Another Fabulous Prize?

Here are the rules:

1) Knit or buy foot covers for the Reservation, now through the end of February.

2) Send me a photo of your Very Best Pair of Foot Covers. They can be hand made or purchased, but only one entry per person, so photograph the cutest, or wildest, or funniest, or funnest. (Send to the photo to amcmanus@ptd.net with Heet The Feet Entry in the subject line.)

3) Mail that pair (and any others you've made or bought) to the Reservation by February 29. I'd love to hear how many (total) you send (and any other warm things you might choose to send). Only socks, slippers, booties will be judged for this Challenge, though.

On March 1 (or thereabouts) I will post the pictures and call for People's Choice votes right here at Sheep Shots.

A fabulous fiber-related prize will be awarded to the sock/slipper/bootie knitter/crocheter who garners the most votes. Note: you can enter a picture of ones you've bought, or ones you've made, but only one picture per person.


If you're not inclined to make them, all the stores have piles of slippersocks on clearance now that Christmas is over.

I found these cuties at the grocery store yesterday for a dollar!

The bear heads are stuffed. There are skid-proof dots on the bottoms. They'll delight someone and keep her (assuming here) feet toasty.

Putting Some Color In My Life


After days of beige, I really needed something bright and cheerful. I also have a debt to repay to all the wonderful Children In Common knitters who contributed to the Mittnz Challenge for Cheyenne River Reservation this summer. I promised 2 pairs of socks for their current challenge --little bitty socks, toddler size. I can do this!

So, this morning, I cast on.

A Cottage Creations Wisconsin Winter Sock in the smallest size (a 4 year) with Lopi-type (instead of the worsted weight+ fingering called for in the pattern).

Did I get gauge?

I did not!

That sock would have housed a woodchuck family!

And so, I frogged.

And tried again, this time, the Iowa Crew Sock (same designer, different sock) in a worsted weight, handpainted looking yarn (think Kittyville, in a different colorway).

Hot damn! I finished the pair in one day.

One down, one to go.

I may use the same pattern again. I might even use the same yarn.
