Whatever Lola Wants

And here's Lola. In the sweater that she wanted (okay, her mom wanted). I made one like it (without the pink trim) for her partner in crime, Charlie.

(No, Lola and Charlie are not mine!) Sweaters were a special request from Younger Son for a friend.

What Does the Fox Say?

I'm not certain that we will ever know.This one (who goes by the name of Fleabag) is destined for an Easter egg hunt at the home of the Baby Grands.

So far, he's been silent.

And I need to make at least 2 more equally cute egg stuffers pronto! Easter is a mere 3 weeks away.


Pattern in the OOP book in the background. Yarn, odd bits of sock yarn, probably Brown Sheep Wildfoote.


I'm not especially inclined to review this book. A quick search tells me that it's available (possibly) from UK vendors, but Amazon lists it only in the used state. I bought mine (remaindered) at Ollie's (good stuff, cheap) a couple years ago--for less than $5. I have made up only one of the patterns (Fleabag) and it is fiddly beyond beyond. Part of that is My Own Fault, as I used sock weight yarn and size 1 dpns. The pattern calls for DK/worsted and size 4s. I think you can see the problem.



Baby, Baby, Bay-BEE!

 And I am replenishing my stock of baby presents.

This newest carseat blankie is in Webs house brand Valley Yarns Dana in a baby blue. When dawn has failed to crack (darn you, DST!) it's hard(er) to get an accurate color on an iphone camera. It's a little deeper IRL

I'll make a pair of matching booties and stash this one away for the next hypothetical future person.

Can't say enough nice things about this Leisure Arts pattern booklet . I've made several of them (Look back to Januaryish 2014 for more pictures). There's a crochet version also available. Most knitters and crocheters would not need (technically) either of these booklets, but frankly, I'm not sure that I would have gotten the concept without mine! I mean, small blankie, perfect for tucking around a tiny infant; no excess fabric to trip up Mom (or Dad). Come on, am I the only one who was in the dark?

I Am Pleased To Report


See the doggie on the right? That's Helen.

Helen's had a rough life. She was rescued and placed in foster care with my Younger Son. This morning, he reports that she is filling out, that the sores on her butt have healed, and that she has a furry tail once again. Fish oil helps her skin; glucosamine eases her aging joints (hey, it works for the Other Half and me as well!).

Hooray for love and good care.

Where's Your Bone, Girl?


Christmas 2008 at Casa Sheepie.

No little kids to torment Princess Sparky, but instead, Belle of the Ball came to visit, sans her companion animals: Beetle, the Badly Behaved, Katie, the Current Foster Dog, and Raven, the Magnificent. They stayed at the Younger Kid's Home for Wayward Animals, because, frankly Casa Sheepie is not prepared for that sort of adventure mayhem!

I tried mightily to get a good picture of Belle.



I swear that she was nicely framed before I snapped each of these.

That Goggie moves fast!

Belle (and the other animals) all got new chew toys for Christmas.

Since she was here, Belle got first pick and selected a manufactured "marrow bone" (the kind with the smelly faux beefy crap in the center). She nibbled a bit then "buried" it in the living room chair.


Since we really didn't want to find it there later, I fished it out and gave it back to her.

First, she ran downstairs. Then she ran back to the bedrooms. The next time we saw her, there was No Bone in her mouth.

That was when the search commenced. Hey, Girl, where's your bone? Which, of course, caused her to jump onto the chair and to look for the missing treat.




Who knew that dogs could suffer short term memory loss?

After a long look under all the toss pillows, all the throws, under the skirts of every piece of furniture, under all of the furniture for lord's sake, under all of the piled up blankets, there was still no bone.

That was when she jumped on the bed (!) to communicate with Princess Sparky (who was having none of this "talking" with dogs crap and immediately disappeared under the bed) about the missing bone.

The dog can jump that high! (Our bed is very high.)

Bone! Behind the Other Half's pillow! Wouldn't that have been fun to find at 3 in the morning!?





Finally, she settled down and we got a couple of good photos.

Over for another year.

That's the bone in my hand. It went home with her.

(Did I mention that she tried to bury it in the litter pan?)

Fat Cat Sat on Flat Mat



These are for Peaceable Kingdom from whence cometh the most recent fosterdog.

Better look quick, because he goes to an adoption fair on Saturday. All clean and pretty and smelling less beagle-y. Beetle's hoping to find a Forever Family.

Particulars: two strands of worsted weight ack scraps and odd balls. Size 10.5 needles.


Directions: Cast on some stitches. Knit some rows. Bind off. Pick up on an edge (same colors or different ones). Knit some more rows. Bind off, repeat on all the edges. Do it again until it's as big as you need. (12' square is the minimum for cage cozies like these. Most rescue orgs can use that size on up to baby blanket (40") size. Make a call and check.

Donate to your local animal rescue.

Monty, We Hardly Knew Ye


That would be Himself on the left (Belle on the right). The Younger Kid signed up to foster for Peaceable Kingdom. Monty was (as you can see from the photo) not a puppy. Rather, he was an elderly gentledog of the highest order.

He lived with the Younger Kid (and Belle and Raven) for about a week before he crossed the Bridge.

Better in a house than in a cage!




And wasn't it a great Caterday once the rain stopped?

Can we have Caterday every day, please?

Just a simple request.

Knitting stuff tomorrow.

Belle of the Ball

Time, Gentlemen!


Chris finished her pairs of Mittnz (these are just 2 of the ones she mailed). Love the bright, cheery colors.

And some more kids will have warmer hands because Chris cared enough to rise to the Challenge!

I've started something new.

I'll wait while you all act surprised.

Okay, I've started a couple of new things.

The one over there (eyes left) is not the one I've started for the A4A Weekend Rally. They's been offered the opportunity to ship 80 cartons (up to 6000 warm items) through Church World Service. This is an opportunity that cannot be allowed to pass unanswered. So, get out the needles and cast something on! 100% animal fiber. Any color (white and pastels are discouraged because they look dingy so fast).




I'm making a pullover vest. In Lopi-type wool.

I am thinking that between car-riding today and the football game this evening and a TiVo marathon tomorrow. . .

Yep, I'll get it done.

Eyes left for another view of the mystery project.

I need the recipient to try it on before I go any further. I think it might be a little too big, and she's not going to get a whole lot bigger.
